Born in Detroit MI July 8, 1928 to William and Grace Melissa Sprague. Raised by these strong black parents through the Depression, WWII, and the Race Riot of 1943. As related in her childhood memoir entitled, "Pieces from Life's Crazy Quilt," the major influences in the author's life were her parents, a supportive church, and a host of friends and neighbors. She was surrounded by adults who dedicated their lives to improving the future for their children, and for African-American children everywhere. The debt owed to these mentors is truly inmeasurable.
