My Name is Mike, I'm a performance poet, a percussionist and drummer who doeslyrical, rhythm-based tomes attuned to the social and semi-political.
I have hosted three poetry venues in Massachusetts. I am an online reviewer for Rattle Magazine and the Boston Area Small Press and Poetry Scene. I have been performing for ten years and has featured numerous times in Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
My first book is entitled:"Poems: Unearthed from Ashes" (2006). My latest chap book is entitled: "Stunted Inner-Child Shot the TV" by Cervena Barva Press. I write a lot about pop culture and its effects on the individual. Also, a theme of spirituality and "the search for the self" finds its way into my work.(Hope that don't sound doppy!)
Music inspires me: everything from Metal, (Behemoth, IronMaiden, Neurosis, etc.) to punk/hard core: (Bad Brains, Limpwrist, Red Tape)
Poetically, Baudelaire, Blake and Bly inspire me; as well as any person whom ever fought the darkness of their live and lived on to write about it / over come it.
Comedically, the late George Carlin inspires me. On a celluloid level, I’m inspired by the movies of Joan Crawford, Jake Gyllenhaal ect.
