Richard holds a Masters of Arts in Creative Writing from Indiana University and majored in Theatre as an undergraduate at Northern Illinois University. He is a great fan of Lawrence Durrell, Jack Kerouac and John Crowley. He has worked as a freelance advertising copywriter since 1984. He also provides web site content and development.

Novelist and playwright Richard Engling is a founding member of the Chicago Writers Group, a member of the TallGrass Writers Guild and a frequent reader at Chicago's Twilight Tales reading series. His novel, Body Mortgage, was published by NAL PENGUIN, New York and HEADLINE BOOK PUBLISHING, London in 1989 and 1990. His play, Ghost Watch, was produced by the Chicago Actors Ensemble in 1987. He plays drums and percussion for improvisational theatre and spoken word performances as well as in the latin/jazz/blues quartet, Midnight Blue.
