I remember reading Greek Mythology and English History as early as 7 years old, and I first understood the power of the written word when my third grade English teacher recognized my affinity for writing and encouraged me to pursue this, for words, she informed me, "can positvely impact and change people in remarkable ways". This became crucially apparent after I was first published. My biggest influence has been my father, a brilliant surgeon and man who has served as my editor for many years. He has the strongest conception and awareness of the "Queen's English" and proper grammar and punctuation, as well as the unbiased ability to tell me when I have created a masterpiece or need to go back to the proverbial drawing board and try again.
