What has influenced me and brought me to where I am in life now?
* My Father
* Two of My Bosses
* Two Really Good Friends, and...
* Fear of Being Poor
My father gave me an excellent work ethic. He made me do all the "hard" chores around the house. One of the hard chores I had to do was yard work. I was the only girl I knew who had to mow and edge the lawn to perfection, every Saturday at 7:00 a.m. and I hated every minute of it then. When I would finally finish the yard to his standards, he'd ask me, "Don't you feel good about yourself now?" I would always answer, "NO!" I never understood why he would ask me that question until now.
Now, because of my father, I understand the benefit of a job well done to our self-worth.
Two of my bosses gave me a chance. A chance to succeed in life. I had two bosses at a job I took as I was going through a nasty divorce. These two people took a chance on me and gave me an entry level secretary job. It didn't pay much in money, but it paid huge in opportunities to grow as a professional and educationally. These two people single handedly changed the course of my life by encouraging and supporting me to go back to school and receive my undergraduate degree.
During this time, I also met two wonderful people who became my really close friends. They became my positive support network that also encouraged me to finish my education and start a business.
A fear of being poor is also a great motivator! When I divorced, I left with my daughter and the clothes on our backs and that's it! Although we qualified for assistance, since my salary was so low, I refused to accept it. Fear of being poor for the rest of my life motivated me to not accept sub-standard results from myself in any aspect of my life.
So, now here I am, with blessed life, a successful work at home mom of four, and a wife to a wonderful guy.
