Correctional education gives visibility to the unseen and a voice to the unheard.

Background Information

Working as an educator throughout the prisons of Virginia has given me an fascinating account of inmate culture.  After talking to friends and family about my experiences, many of them suggested that I write a book.  And this was after only two years of teaching inmates.  Imagine the stories I have to tell after working twenty-five years in correctional education.

Birth Place
Lynchburg, VA USA
Accomplishments

Most of my rewards of working in correctional educaiton have been intrinsic, even my career has been peppered with extrinsic rewards, plaques, and certificates.

Additional Information

My book, Cell Tales: Recollections of a Correctional Educator, was released in July, 2009. Formerly retired, I now work at three juvenile correctional centers, each located in a different county. Students participate in a unique class, Cognitive Biology, that helps them understand how their mind/brain interacts with the environment. This allows students to become aware of how to develop positive interactions that can improve their chances of successful reentry into society.
