I am a retired Deputy Headteacher who took up writing fantasy/adventure novels in late 2007 at the age of 58 after 30 years in education. UNUSUAL FANTASY/ADVENTURE FOR ALL THE FAMILY! I'll keep writing, I suspect, till my pencil finally breaks and I go to my rest!

Background Information

I write for my own pleasure and, hopefully to give others some reading pleasure too. For me, writing is like a drug, drowning me in my fantasy world 24/7. I aim for 2000-3000 words per day in a disciplined approach that involves me in my stories; mind, body and soul.

My major influences have been Stephen King and others, but also listening to children and students in a career of 30 years in High School education.

My books are set in the 1960s at the time when I was growing up and provide nostalgia for anyone seeking memories of that era. The fantasy I write about, of course, is timeless!

The greatest pleasure a writer can have is getting a complete stranger to read their work - worth more than monetary royalties. And if that stranger is entertained and finds enjoyment for a few hours or days, then the hard work has all been worth it.

I have just completed my 5th book in 14 months. 'The Boy Who Knew Things' is now available from www.lulu.com. Go to http://www.lulu.com/content/5904229 and spend a mere £7.95 for a fantastic read!

Casewrap-hardcover for £19.95 from http://www.lulu.com/content/6310692

    Accomplishments

1 book, 'The Fantastic Journey' published by Arima and 3 sequels published with Lulu.com -
'Anywhere and Nowhere'; 'The Haunting of Eddie Compton' and 'Heaven on Earth'.

Hoping to have 'The Fantastic Journey' reviewed in the Spring issue of The Self-Publishing Magazine

The Rt. Hon. Ann Widdecombe, the British MP and Home Office Minister in John Major's government, has written to me personally to say she is looking forward to reading my book, 'The Fantastic Journey', over the Christmas recess from parliament. Hope she enjoys reading it as she is also a best-selling published author in the UK as well as appearing regularly on TV programmes, both as a guest contributor and as a presenter in her own right. She also writes a weekly column in The Daily Express. I hope she can find the time in her busy schedule to review my work.

Also, being at number 2 with 'The Fantastic Journey' in the Fantasy Books top ten on AuthorsDen, even if only for a short time - that's some kind of success, I suppose?

    Additional Information

Anywhere and Nowhere reviewed! A promise of magic 24 Jan 2009 by Julie Powell A good introduction to the mystery of 'what has gone before'. Phrases like 'magical journey' always invoke a sense of wanting to know more while 'mysterious object' brings definite intrigue, and the dialogue between the two boys gives enough insight of their characters. A promising good tale. Julie Elizabeth Powell, author of Gone, The Star Realm, Knowing Jack and Slings & Arrows Fantasy is just an extension of reality! BOOKS BY MARTYN CROFT 2008.rtf
