I grew up in Farmington, Michigan and was a very popular little girl. I almost got straight A's and was well-liked by all of my teachers.
When my father and mother told me we would be moving to California I was devastated. I even had to leave my precious dog Shadow behind which was the worst aspect about moving for me. I didn't like it here in California and only made 1 friend in junior high school. My best friend I guess you could say was food. I gained 90 pounds in 4 years.
I also started drinking alcohol at the age of 19 and drank heavily for 12 years. I smoked cigarettes for 28 years and have quit for 8 years now. I wrote a book which was just published this September titled "I Quit!" telling my story of having these 3 addictions, then of quitting all of them. I live a life of freedom from addictions now and I wouldn't go back to those addictions for anything. I don't want them either which is where the freedom comes in.
I know how futile it seems when you're addicted---how you think you will never be able to quit. I share my story so people can see that yes, it IS possible to quit....and it may not be as difficult to do as you thought.
