Margaret Cmelik was born in Iowa She lived in several small Iowa towns growing up and eventually settled as an adult and college student in Ames. She attended and graduated from Iowa State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree and worked in a variety of analytical labs while considering post-graduate work and other career moves. Not loving any of her options she gladly gave them up to raise her only daughter, Emily.
When her daughter turned 18, Margaret's mothering duties became lighter and she decided it was time to try something new. She turned to a longtime love, writing. She blended it with her advice-giving, joke-telling nature and began writing humorous self-help books. She created her company, MEC Publications. With no real employees she used what she has called her alternate personalities to create several fictional employees, giving rise to an entertaining online company presence. These fictional characters make appearances as writers on her website, tipsters in her books, characters in her blogs, and even reporters appearing in personal interviews, all adding an extra level of enjoyment for her readers to experience.
Margaret plans to continue writing tip books but is also branching off into other humorous writing endeavors including essays and "stupid-humor-books-which-are-created-just-to-make-you-laugh" which she loves to both read and write. She resides in Ames, IA with her illustrator, best friend and daughter Emily, her beloved pet tortoise Ed and a balcony full of lemon trees, herbs and wildflowers.
