"I loved the book. How does anyone acquire the ability to put words together so beautifully?"

Background Information

I was raised in a small town and began writing in second grade on a toy typewriter my parents gave me for Christmas. When fate gave me teachers who taught reading through phonics and syllables, I fell in love with the English language, and the affair has never ended.

In my twenties I had the good fortune of meeting an old pilot who had taught cadets flying in WW II and who had then crop dusted following the war. His influence led to my getting a pilot's license and, more importantly, to my writing a first novel, Take Off: A Time for War, A Time for Love, published by a traditional royalty publisher.

Later, after my wife and I adopted two infants, I began to wonder what it would be like if they located their biological parents. Several years of mental What if? games resulted in my second novel, Love Tag, also published by a traditional royalty house.

Imperfect Acts, my third novel, should be ready for release in 2012. This story was inspired by an actual event in which a killer committed murder in front of witnesses, all of whom were afraid to come forward. The police to this day know who killed the victim, but without any corroboration they can do nothing. It's logline is "A psycho killer has the police handcuffed. A teenage girl will be his next victim. Only her best friend can save her."

Accomplishments

Love Tag won first place for a published mainstream novel in the Royal Palm Literary Award competition, a national contest sponsored by the Florida Writers Association.

I still get requests for Take Off. (The publisher went out of business, Amazon is out of stock, etc.) I need to find another publisher or self-publish the book.

My short fiction and poetry has appeared in the Rockhurst Review, in the Kansas City Star and in six anthologies.

Additional Information

My heartbreaking yet uplifting short story, "The Gift," has been made into a greeting card that people buy five and six at a time for their mothers, daughters and friends.
