I was raised in New York, and lived there for twenty-four years. I have six terrific kids, five boys and one girl, including two with chronic special-needs (Autism & Downs syndrome.) They have taught me the true meaning of love and sacrifice, and have given me a renewed appreciation for quiet, and alone time.
My journey has truly been an adventure. Although I've been writing since I was a young girl, penning my first poem at the age of 10, I didn't believe that writing was a viable career choice so I pursued other options. I tried professions that had the potential to be quite lucrative, however, I felt unfulfilled.
In addition to becoming a licensed minister of the Gospel in 2004, I also hold an Bachelor of Arts degree in Government/Public Administration; and an MBA in finance from Long Island University, Graduate School of Business.
On April 8, 2009, at the age of 48, I suffered a heart-attack despite being in excellent health, and having no known or anticipated risk factors. It was at that time I decided to live the life I was intended to, and pursue my passion for writing as a career. Currently, I am preparing to take my writing to new levels. I was hoping to begin an MFA program by the Fall, 2012 to concentrate on creative writing (poetry.) I've found, however, that most programs require an english or writing background. I have neither. So, I've decided to take another route to reach the same destination. I'm pursuing professional certificates in creative writing and adult education at UC Berkely Extension (online.) I'm definitely NOT a quitter!
Today, I have joy because I've decided to take a risk to change my life at mid-life; I'm stepping completely outside of my comfort zone and going for what I want! I am enjoying the Authors Den family, and look forward to sharing ideas and pennings!
