Was It Fate…Or Destiny? is a 256 page story about a homesteading family living in the Crystal River Valley outside Marble, Colorado. It’s about Jess and Emily Brown and their two children, Tommy age 7 and Sarah age 6. Jess was killed in a card room brawl at Kate’s Saloon in 1880; leaving Emily a 24 year old widow to raise her children by herself. Take a journey with me and see how she meets and falls in love and marries with Sam, a kind but shy ranch hand bunking at the Triple R Ranch as their new life together in the rugged Rocky Mountains unfolds 3 years later. While writing ghost stories are my main genre, even I can’t tell the reader, why this story lingered in the back of my mind all these years, adding a few pages to it every so often. Whatever the reason, I’m grateful that the lure of the “Wild West era of American history lingered in my imagination as a “Fiction Writer”… because the pages of life in the 1890’s as a homesteading family I feel come alive within these pages.
