Once I collected thousands of 19th Century newspapers and started reading through them for family connections I found that the actual news stories were simply too good to resist. I began including them along with the genealogical data in my earlier books. I finally decided to publish a book entirely based on the lives, struggles and tragedies of these ordinary people.
