William Luse
I studied fiction under Smith Kirkpatrick at the University of Florida. Smith was himself a student of Andrew Lytle, one of the original Fugitives who wrote I'll Take My Stand , and thus the influence of the New Critics upon my writing - and upon my critical approach to the writings of others - has been significant. Smith passed away in 2008, and essays by his former students (including one of my own)memorializing what he meant to them, as a teacher and a friend, can be found here .
