Laurie Hunter Gilbert
A Buffalo, New York native, Laurie Hunter-Gilbert's passion for writing started in the 5th grade. This was when one of her many dreams was fulfilled. Putting pen to paper she wrote an Easter play that was performed by her classmates at the school she attended. She was hooked. Writing many books of poetry in high school, she became discouraged when publishing companies rejected her work. Then she met Nikki Giovanni, a poet who greatly influenced her love for poetry and writing.
