I was enrolled as a volunteer at the age of 19 and initiated into the 3rd South African Infantry Battalion. When discharged from two years national service I returned for several 'camps'. In these times, I witnessed atrocities and the brutality of war and how terror was used by all sides to undermine communities and subject them to the will of a minority.
