When I was a little girl I began creating stories before I learned to read. My grandfather would type them up for me, send them out and we collected rejection slips which I valued as others value Blue Ribbons because they reminded me I had finished a story and mailed it out. I read every copy we had of The Book of Knowledge. My favorite novels were "Little Women" and "Alice in Wonderland."
