I started writing poetry in the Third Form at The Saint Mary's Academy. I made contributions to the school's newspaper, The Marian Messenger.
I then started to venture beyond the school magazine and contributed poems and short stories to the local weekly newspapers and the local radio station. A lot of that early exposure was through the help of Dominica's noted writer Phyllis Shand-Allfrey, who at the time was the editor of The Star newspaper.
