From "Any Given Sunday"

"Life is a game of inches. So is football. In either game the margin of error is small. One half a step too late or too early and you don't quite make it. But the inches we need are everywhere around us. In every minute of our lives.
We have to go for every inch. Because we know that when we add up those inches, that will make the difference between winning and losing. And I know that if I'm gonna have any life anymore, it's because I'm still willing to go for that inch. And that's what living is. The six inches in front of your face.
Now what are YOU gonna do?"

| I thought at first the article was going to be about the speech in "Scent of a Woman" (my favorite movie of Al's) but this article has me interested in the movie this article is about and I'm off to rent it from NetFlix. I'll comment further after I've seen the movie you write about. |

So true. You aren't done living those inches until you are dead, and if you aren't looking for those inches and expectatiion, they you are not living...just existing.

| I didn't see that movie, but I like Al Pacino; he's a fine actor. That speech makes sense, and is another way of saying "ever onward, ever upward" ... or as the Bible advises: PRESS ON. As for me, I'll always strive to go that extra inch because those inches add up to "the extra mile" and pretty soon I'll be home-free. Al's speech is a positive reminder of what life is about. |
