Lizzie was only 16, but quite intelligent. It is only through her actions that her mom and dad were able to see that true family lives on faith and love, and not money alone.

As cab driver in Midland, Texas, I saw a lot of different elements of our local society. From the elite rich to the back-track drunk.

One of my fares was a 16 year old young lady who made quite an impression on me. As we rode around town that night she opened up and let me know how alone she felt. She told me how much money her family had, and about the fancy house. How whatever she wanted, all she had to do was ask and it was hers. But the one thing she did not have, was a good relationship with her parents. Oh, they never fought, she just wanted more time with them. She felt as if they didn't have time for her, and would be better off without her around. My heart felt for her.

It made me look into my relationship with my children. I never had all the money in the world and probably never would, but I did spend a lot of time working just trying to pay the bills.
My book "Lizzie: A Time For Growing", is a story of this young lady and how I would like for things to have worked out for her.

It is a good read for adults and teens because it holds your interest and actually comes to a happy ending. I hope that whoever reads it comes away with a better understanding of family and takes the time to spend a little more time with theirs.
