Rosemary is about as effective as Gingko in improving memory and fighting dementia. Plus its much cheaper and easier to obtain.
Many people, if not pretty much the general public are in varying degrees, familiar with Ginkgo. This I would think would be especially true of persons who believe in natural health, naturopathy, herbalism and perhaps other forms of alternative, complementary, integrative medicine.
What is known is Gingko helps with memory and forms of senility and Alzheimers. What may not be known to many individuals is there is an herb
that is much less costly. Plus it's much easier to obtain. You can readily purchase it in your neighborhood grocery store or supermarket.
Its the herb Rosemary. Yes, Rosemary. What most of us think of as merely a pungent, flavorable seasoning. The reality is this plant has properties that can be very
helpful with age related memory loss and as mentioned before, many if not all forms of brain degeneration.
Please note Rosemary possesses other beneficial quailities. This piece is only on its cognitive properties.
The properties of Rosemary that are relevant here in alphabetical order. Antidepressant, antioxidant, cephalic, circulatory stimulant, nervine, rejuvenative, stimulant, tonic.
Antidepressant means it helps lift one's mood, ie a mood elevator. Antioxidant. It helps fight free radicals. Free radicals can lead to damaging the cells and therefore could possibly lead to arthritis, cancer, diabetes and aging itself.
Cephalic refers to the head. Rosemary is an excellent headache remedy. Cephalic refers to improving memory too.
Nervice relaxes, nourishing to the nerves. Circulatory stimulant. It stimulates blood flow.
This is how Gingko works too. By increasing blood flow to the brain, it improves that organ's cognitive function. Rejuvenative. Rejuvenates body, mind and spirit. May slow down aging. Helps fight the effect of stress and increase endurance. With the actions mentioned above one may be able to see that Rosemary is much more than a delicious culinary seasoning or spice.
definite actions that can help with memory problems and even dementia.
Rosemary contains Vitamin C, Calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, zinc, essential oils(borneol, camphor, cineole, eucalyptol, linalol, pinene, thymene. Thymene is an antioxidant.
Warning This plant should not be ingested by pregnant women. Extremely large doses can cause convulsions. Its probably not okay to take it if your subject to seizures. In normal dosages its safe.
