Our choice to follow a certain path for our life is reflected in the most elemental particles of our matter.
According to scientists, we have options at the molecular level. This discovery occurred because of the black body radiation and ultraviolet catastrophe. Experimental physicists define a black body as that which absorbs all radiation emitted from a source. The catastrophe occurred because at the lower spectrum of electromagnetic energy or light--the ultraviolet range--energy increased to infinity, meaning that even if you sat at a comfortable distance from your fireplace, you'd burn up. Reality didn't match theory, so there had to be an answer to this "catastrophe."
Einstein explained what was happening by using Plank's hypothesis, that electromagnetic energy (like that coming from your reading lamp) does not follow the classical description, that it isn't being emitted in a steady flow but rather in bursts or discrete packets of energy or quantum. To explain what's going on here, we'll have to look at the most basic element of existence, the particle (initially thought to be protons, neutrons and electrons, but a smaller one was discovered, the quark). There's actually a dual existence to the particle--which explains the confusion or "ultraviolet catastrophe." If you look directly at it, you will see just that, a particle, but if you turn away, looking at it from the corner of your eye, it will appear as a wave. As explained by physicists, this wave is actually the particle appearing in several places at the same time, or alternative realities or possibilities. (Now you know where all this alternative reality science fiction comes from.) And when you focus and see one particle, are you really seeing what is there or what you perceive to be there? These possibilities at the most fundamental level of existence can be used as a metaphor for how you perceive your existence. Are you living the only possibility or have you chosen one of many?
Here's something else to ponder in regards to choice. Scientists tell us that our brain can not differentiate between an image seen by our eyes or that seen by our mind--a thought. So when you are in an awaken state, are you really seeing what is there or what you perceive to be there? Some believe that you won't see something until you believe it is there or understand what it is enough to actually see it. Supposedly, as Columbus closed in on the shores of San Salvador , the Arawaks did not see his ships, even though they were visible, until they were convinced by a trusted shaman the ships existed. Supposedly, because the Arawaks had never seen a ship, their minds couldn't see what was actually before them. This all harkens back to the newage concept of creating your own reality. Even though it may appear as a trite concept, it is essential to understand that what you see is what you get. But do we not see certain things or believe certain things as possibilities merely because we can't conceive them as real in our mind's eye? Do we limit possibilities in this way? Has the great, abundant possibilities of our youth left us? Our youth, where possibilities not only existed but multiplied with play. How important is it for us to be at play in order to see greater, life changing possibilities. Before we go any further, let's take a look at possibility from another angle.
We are emotion based creatures. How we act on a regular basis actually becomes programmed in the neuron network of our brain. Our neurons process information by firing along synaptic relays to other physically adjacent neurons. Our emotions are instrumental in this processing of information, that which programs or conditions our way of thinking. And if you are someone who often worries, complains, rejects possibilities, here you are and here you will stay based on this repetitive programming. However, like a shockwave that can interrupt a malfunctioning heart, these established patterns can be interrupted. This is where NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) comes into play. It is a "behavioral technology," most popularly used by Anthony Robbins, that allows the recipient to change, adopt, or eliminate behaviors. Are you by nature shy? Angry? Lazy? Stubborn? Incompetent? Helpless? Selfish? Only if you accept these possibilities. Time and time and time again people change their lives for the better, eliminating destructive or unproductive behavior. You're lazy? Change it. You're shy? Change it. You're selfish? Change it. Even Hollywood understands the bad guy, the incompetent person, the selfish gal can change.
Life is full of possibilities, right down to the most basic element of existence. However, mere interruption will not do it. You may alter your behavior using NLP techniques for a month but will you continue to believe that you can change? That you are not that programming, programming that may have been in place for many a year. This is where the support of a higher power comes into play. Who? Spouse, partner, family, and the divine. Don't go it alone, find your support group and keep your eyes, mind, and most importantly, heart open to great possibilities, choices waiting for you to believe in them.
