From "Heyday for Horror"
The Golden Age of horror. Sounds noble, literary almost, which may seem to some like an oxymoron when coupled with any genre fiction and particularly horror. But horror is not just pulp and gore anymore. The genre has spawned many sub-categories like paranormal horror, Lovecraftian, gothic, noir, and splatterpunk. Many of these spill over into other genres like fantasy, romance, sci-fi and mystery, making classifications more difficult. Where does dark fantasy end and horror begin? How much suspense makes a novel dark? This literary shuffle can be confusing to a writer, but the beauty of it is that so many markets are now open for the horror writer.
