God talks to Scott about the Forever Why's of life.
The Forever Why’s
I had a dream that provoked my thoughts toward a subject that I have dealt with in the past. It seems to come up again and again to my consciousness and my minds awareness. I asked God Why was this coming to me again? At this moment my thoughts were directed to a conversation from a gentleman I knew who was recently diagnosed with Cancer. I had known this gentleman for about thirty years although we had drifted apart from each other through the years. We connected again, of all places at a Panera bread store that I frequent. He saw me, and then I saw him and we began to talk. I knew he had been a successful real estate salesman for about all the time I had known him.
We struck up a conversation and in the midst of it he shared with me that he had been diagnosed with colon cancer in his mid fifty’s. You don’t know what to say to somebody when they tell you something like this. I think I said… “I’m sorry to hear about this.” We for over thirty years of knowing each other casually, and somehow, seemed to connect to each other on a deeper, soul-level. He told me how he went in for a routine colonoscopy and the technician noticed a mass took a subsequent biopsy of it and told my friend to go home and they would notify him of the lab results.
The results came in…Stage three colon cancer. He said they took out about 13” of his colon and recommended a regime of radiation and strong chemotherapy drugs. This regime would span almost a year of time. His process was brutal to say the least. He lost much of his hair, much of his weight, and a lot of strength. He told me that only God could bring him through this and that it was a time of real trusting. He told me that he had to stay away from all “negative” people who would bring him down. His wife and family were obviously shaken through this event too. He told me that he had to tell his wife that if she was scared or afraid to not let out these negative fears in front of him as this would invoke fear and him too. She was to suffer in fear without expressing it to my friend. She had to suffer in silence so as not to disturb his peace, and his sense of faith.
He then told me something very interesting. He told me that in his case he was to listen to the oncologist advice and just “go through the process.” God didn’t want him to go off in any weird tangents. He then told me that all his friends and acquaintances were giving him alternative treatments to fight this cancer…from mega-vitamin regimes to cancer treatment centers that used alternative measures outside of our country. He said, “God told me to just go through the process, and that his only job was to allow it and go through it…even if it seemed painful.”
He just celebrated a few weeks ago his last chemotherapy treatment. He is very happy and trying to re-integrate back into the work world. He told me with his real estate business that it was only God who kept his business afloat and he was thankful for the provision God brought him.
He told me another thing that really seemed to “tweak” my spirit. When he said these words it was as if Spirit was telling me… “Listen carefully to what is being said.” He said these words… “God also showed me through the process of his cancer treatments to not question God with the “Why’s” of why he contracted this disease…but to ask the higher question… “What is my next step?” This statement “tweaked” me good. It resonated with my spirit. It was like inside of me, I was saying a big “Amen” or “So be it.”
It rang truthful to me is all I can say about it. It had a big impact on me. It was like Spirit was saying… “Take note” of what is being said…don’t forget it!” So, I did and I asked Spirit in my heart at the time it was said to remind me of it…if I were to forget.
Today, in my prayer and meditation I was reminded of a challenge I had faced before…a fear or phobia that seemed familiar to me. When Spirit brought it to my attention I immediately cried aloud that I thought this was past… “Why is it still coming up for me?” Then Spirit reminded me of this incident with my friend and my inward prayer to remind me of what was said. Here is what Spirit says…
Hi Scott, I am reminding you of this statement for it is a true statement and one of great wisdom when you learn to not ask the question…Why? Why? Because you can never understand the why’s of anything…for the whys are only reserved for God itself to know.
Your job as a human being is to ask the greater question of God… “What do you want me to do?” Or, “What is the next step God?” These two questions serve your soul’s purpose better than the former question… “Why?” Why’s are like statements you humans make often about wanting to do something and regretting the fact that you are not, or did not follow through with it. These are the “shoulda, coulda, woulda type of questions and statements that humans make all the time. “I should have done this, or, I could have done this, or why didn’t I do this or that?” These are endless questions of the “Forever Why’s” that will not bring about a resolve…they only stimulate other questions that can never be answered.
Your jobs as humans is to trust the divine even when you don’t know the answer to the why questions. A question to God that serves your divine purpose starts with the word “What, and not, Why.” What would you have me to do…or…what is my next step God? This is the “bingo” question…the one that will bring about results if you really want to hear from the divine. When you ask from a heart of sincerity this type of question to God it is always answered. The answer does not always come in your time-frame. Just trust that in time, it will be answered for you.
You will notice that God does not give you too many answers all at once. You would be overwhelmed with them if it did. God gives you the next step in your life and you are to follow it until another step is given. When you don’t know where to turn, don’t stop, just keep on keeping on…knowing and trusting that in the end it will all come to serve your higher purpose. Making money, although necessary in survival of your species, is not the highest priority of your soul. Your soul knows what it needs and it is constantly bringing before you the challenges it needs to take you to your next growth level of consciousness.
Your job as humans is only to trust the process. Don’t try to out-guess God or try to run from your given situation. Just ask for the next step and it will be given to you. Take note of the Israelites in the wilderness with Moses my servant. They asked for provision and they got it in the form of heavenly manna. Bread that came daily to feed they and their families. Each day they would have to gather it. Notice, God made the provision, but it was their job to gather it up to feed their family. God will not, and can not do everything for you. I hear you pray for provision, and I answer this. It is your job to gather the manna daily.
Notice that the Israelites tried to out-guess God in this divine venture. They thought…and this is part of the problem…they thought…they reasoned…among themselves… “Why not pick up more than one day of provision when we could pick up more than we need and it would carry forward for other days too.” There is a divine principle hidden in this story…God says he will take care of you and your needs on a daily basis…not on a weekly, or monthly, or yearly basis…just trust God for the provision one day at a time. Your culture would tell you something different than this counsel.
The Israelites, like most of you humans, try to out-guess God by human reasoning and human understanding. They tried to gather more than the daily allotment provided for them and the manna putrefied before their very eyes. It turned rancid and the daily provision putrefied when they tried to gather more than their daily portion. The moral of this divine principle is obvious…look for provision on a daily basis…don’t try to see any farther than this. I will take care of you one day at a time. If you had it all laid out for you for multiple days, weeks, months and years you would quit trusting God for it. It is human nature.
This is why the master Jesus, the Christ, said take no thought for tomorrow and that you should consider the lilies of the field that they don’t toil or spin and yet they were arrayed with greater glory than that of Solomon. Jesus, the Christ told his followers to pray that God give you daily bread…not weekly…not monthly…not annually…but daily.
If humans would just look for daily provision and not worry about the future they would realize that provision is always there in some way, shape or form. God feeds the sparrows and all creation does it not? This creation knows to the deepest of their core that provision is always on a daily basis. Trust God then on a daily basis…this is your job. So, go about your lives trusting for the daily allotment that you humans require and it will be there…take no thought…or don’t worry about the day after, or the week after, or the year after…just trust the divine for it on a daily basis.
