THE CANVAS

Did you know that you are an artist of sorts? That’s right, you have the ability to create a masterpiece each and every day. What we don’t realize is that each morning when we wake up we are given a canvas and a paint palette with every imaginable color at our disposal. Now of course I’m not talking about a physical canvas that you can see or touch but a canvas that we can paint on by the use of our thoughts, actions, and words.
These three areas of our lives are the most powerful paints we have. With them we can create a picture that is peaceful and full of happiness, or one that is dark and full of despair.
Our thoughts can shape our outlook on the day. We can think thoughts of gratitude for our health, family etc. Those thoughts can get us through the most stressful situations that come our way at work, on the road and at home. Our thoughts can give us a positive or negative opinion of ourselves. If we see ourselves successful, healthy and happy in our minds eye than we can feel more secure about who we are and what we can do.
Our actions tell others of what we really are made of. Do you do things that condemn or belittle others or are we about the business of uplifting others. Do we always seek to get the credit for ourselves or will we be part of the team. Are we willing to befriend the unfriendly person or the one who may have done something to us in the past, or are we holding onto that grudge to use as our trump card when necessary.
And finally there are our words, these little verbal morsels that can literally destroy or create any scenario we desire. According to scripture “death and life are in the power of the tongue” what an amazing statement! With our words we can build a positive future for our children, create an environment in which our spouses or mates can flourish in, create a marriage with a love that knows no limits, and build relationships that can last a lifetime.
With those same words we can raise juvenile delinquents, cause a family to be divided, instill insecurity and low self-esteem in our spouses, family members and friends. Not to mention destroy the character of those around us.
And you will often hear someone say, “Oh, I didn’t mean what I said”, well before we speak it might be a good idea to evaluate what we really do mean. The two most difficult words in the English language but yet two of the most profound are “I’m sorry”, and very often another word gets in the way of us using that phrase and that word is PRIDE.
So you see if you go back to the beginning of all this, you can understand the concept of “THE CANVAS”. What colors will you use to paint with today, the dark shades of bitterness, resentment, despair or the bright colors of joy, encouragement and friendship.
When the day ends and you put your head on your pillow will you be at peace or will your canvas need retouching.
