Scott asks Gwendolyn about Qestions about beliefs.
Questions about Beliefs
I am beginning to see how important our beliefs in things influence our present thinking. I went to my spiritual guide Gwendolyn and here is the insight she gave me about this subject.
Scott, I would be more than happy to answer any of your questions about this subject of beliefs. It is a very pivotal teaching that can help one grow spiritually in their evolutionary journey through life.
Question: Gwendolyn, how are beliefs formed?
Answer: Scott, this is a very important question that should not be taken for granted. Beliefs are formed by thought. A thought comes into the mind sometimes as an internal question that you have, this becomes an idea. Out of the idea, if one were to continually focus their personal attention on this idea, as if doing it repetitively, one would start to accumulate a basis for belief. If one practices this idea in daily living, as if it were fully true , then a belief would be formed. Consider a belief as the foundation of all thought.
Consider a building for a moment. An idea of what the building looks like is formed in the mind first. Then an architect begins to draw this building and constructing it in the mind, and this idea is thus placed on paper. It becomes an invisible thought that now becomes visible to the human senses. Then the architect takes into account the structural components and through sophisticated mathematics and load evaluations comes up with the right components to this structure. This is like putting the “meat on the bones” of a human body. Cost estimates are accounted for and now a developer knows exactly how much he will have to pay for this structure to be built.
None of this could be accomplished without an idea, which is repeated, then the idea is practiced, and it becomes a reality. This is how beliefs are made. Beliefs are the foundation of your building. They can work for you or against you…only you determine which beliefs work for you, and which do not.
Your mental constructs, with beliefs at the foundation actually materialize in your daily living. They always were constructed and built by thought first. Thoughts can be entertained, they can be romanced, and they can be practiced, and then placed into your reality of existence. Your life, if you do not like what is before you, or what is being manifest to you and to everyone else, you must take into account your beliefs. Beliefs are the building blocks or foundation of your structure.
all of you have constructed what you see and are today as a person in human form. Everything about you was first originated by a thought, an idea, it was practiced and adopted as you, and it became who you are today. In other words you are the manifestation of your thoughts. Everything you have created in life so far has been because of these thoughts which became the building blocks of your foundation as a human being upon this earth.
If you are unhappy with what you see, then you must get to the foundation, or to your beliefs to figure out a new plan for your life and this must start with evaluation of all your thoughts. This might seem absolutely absurd to the casual listener, but it is essential. You must evaluate your thoughts. This can be done by quieting the mind in meditation and relaxing. It can also be accomplished by being as it were, an observer of your thoughts.
You see most people attach to their thoughts, thinking that they are their thoughts. After all, you are much more than your thoughts. You have power to create and you do so, whether consciously or not. The manifestation of your thoughts is evident in what you see. You create your world as it were, thought by thought. Thoughts that are built upon and practiced become beliefs, and beliefs are your foundation. All thoughts are sifted, as it were through your personal beliefs, because this is your foundation. Jesus himself stated that a man should not build his house upon the sand. Why? Because sand shifts and changes and is not like building your structure on a firm foundation like rock.
Many of you have built your entire belief system, around thoughts that have never been analyzed completely whether these thoughts are really valid or true for you. You see, not everything you have heard from your loving parents was true . Much of it was rehearsed to them by their well meaning parents and so on. Children are very impressionable. They are like open books. They are like sponges in their thinking. Whatever a parent tells them they believe it as if it were coming direct from God. Sometimes, what the parent says is good for them and other times it becomes a mental construct, which becomes a belief that is attached to, that does not serve their spiritual or mental evolution as a human being.
Spirit is constantly working with us to get us to analyze and break down these thoughts so that they can serve you well. This takes much patience with the self and persistence. Before one can receive help from God or the Higher Self, one must first question their thoughts and beliefs. Most people wander through life never doing this one step, and they wonder why their world is so “topsy turvey.” The wander through life as in a dream state and they have never awakened. They do this because they have accepted these foundational beliefs as their gospel. They have attached so deeply to these thoughts and subsequent beliefs that it would take explosives to get them to think differently.
You are what you think Scott. You are a construct of your foundational beliefs. If one would just take the time to analyze their thoughts and beliefs, and then to discard the ones that do not serve them, they would be on the road to recovery and to constructing their lives as a life that serves them. This is the way to happiness and fulfillment of the individual while upon this earth. It is not an easy road, but a highly profitable one when it comes to your human growth, your spiritual growth and your overall evolution.
Children although very gullible and innocent take everything in as if gospel at early ages and they form their beliefs here. Much of their lives then become a struggle because of this belief system. Some of what they believed served them and has helped them, while other beliefs need to be analyzed and addressed. Questions like this are healthy: “My mother and father told me this and that was true …is it really true ? Questions like: “Have these beliefs really served me and helped me?” are important ones to ask of yourself. Your Self knows more than you give it credit. Your feelings of whether something serves you or not is very important. If you don’t know whether a conscious thought or belief serves you well…go to your emotions and feelings about what you believe. Do you feel contractive feelings or expansive feelings with the thought or belief? You body will also tell you the truth about something…listen to it too.
Many have said the body never lies, and that is true . Your mind might fool you for a time, but the body will manifest the truth to you. If your body constricts, or contracts, when something is said to you then question a question like, “Why is my body constricting at such a statement.” This is a healthy way to evaluate statements, thoughts and beliefs. So, what are your feelings or emotions saying to you…are they expansive feelings or contractive feelings? How does your body react to what is believed…is it expansive and freeing, or contractive and restrictive?
Many of you have neglected these great messengers to you and you are paying the price in your health. Most of your health, or unhealthiness, is a result of your thoughts and beliefs. You are the creator. If your foundation is faulty, or on sinking sand, the building will deteriorate and be decimated in time. How is your mental health? Check your feelings and your body…do you feel constricted or tight? If so, analyze your thoughts and get to the foundation of them, which are your beliefs.
Question: Gwendolyn, how do I change these beliefs then?
Answer: First, through analysis of them. Then sensing your body and feelings and checking in with them…they are of great guidance to you. Also, look at your life…analyze it…What do you see? What does your building look like? Is it built on a firm foundation? Have all your thoughts which have become beliefs are they serving your higher purpose as a human being and as a spiritual being? Are your thoughts contractive or expansive? When you hear a sermon, or are learning something, always check in with your body and feelings to see if what is being said resonates with the deeper soul that you are. Don’t deny your feelings…embrace them as true .
There is a thought that has become a belief for many that to “go inside” and analyze is wrong. They might say to themselves… “ I can’t go against what my parents and others have told me is the gospel.” But I say to you, how has this belief system served you to date? Are you happy? Are you satisfied as a human being? Do you feel expansive feelings like love, joy, peace, or are they the contrary? Only you can identify whether these thoughts, that have become your belief system are serving your higher purposes. If they don’t, simply discard them and replace them with a thought that does. It truly is that simple.
My prayer for you Scott and all mankind, is that you will simply analyze your thoughts and subsequent beliefs. If one will do this they are well on the way to serving their higher purposes and this will manifest in their daily lives in a very visible way.
Thank you Gwendolyn for answering these questions of mine…
I love you…
Scott, you are always welcome, and remember, I am always here for you…
Blessings and Love,
