This is an article I wrote about the big oil companies, gas prices, and how they are getting away with taking our money.

-----Copied and Pasted Below-----

This Article hits home with the prices of gas being above $4 in America and even higher in other places it's a wonder that big oil companies and Opec aren't being brought in front of the people when they are turning 90 billion dollar profits per quarter

While I have thought about this for a long time as I am sure most Americans have in the recent
year especially, it seems that the oil companies are making millionaires out of their CEOs for jacking up
the prices of gas and blaming it on OPEC. Since when does a company make billions in profits when the
price of the product they need to make their product is so high? Supposedly the cost of gas is directly
related to the amount that oil costs per barrel, but I’m just not seeing it.
There are people out there who have turned a blind eye to this, or say things like, they should
be able to make a profit off of their product as well, but they are the ones who are directly responsible
for this recession that our country is in at this very moment. When someone is shelling out hundreds of
dollars to fuel their vehicle in order to get to work and go back and forth and can’t afford to pay their
regular bills while the CEOs and other people involved with these companies are getting rich isn’t there
a problem? At this present moment in our economy there are people who are losing their houses,
businesses are having to either cut back or charge more for their product and yet there is nothing being
done to the people who are in direct relation to this problem.
This might seem like a complaint letter or something that someone rights because they are
angry that they didn’t get what they wanted, however it’s not that at all. This is a call out to the
American people to wake up and smell the roses. Big business is the ones that are running this country
in the present moment and we have to do something about it. We were given this country through the
long fought battles of our forefathers and we are just letting it slip away slower and slower every day.
There are people in Congress, Senate, and the White House that are sitting idly by while the
American public is being raped by a group of companies that are controlling the oil. They are sitting idly
by because they are just as much involved with this as they were with the fake evidence that took us
into a conflict in IRAQ. These are the people who are running this country and have nothing to do but
make up stories so that they can become rich. It’s time for the American people to take back this
country and do with the power of voting, and writing.
We are granted rights under the constitution for a reason and yet not many people seem to use
them. They are only looking for ways to get more money to put into the pockets of these major power
companies and companies that supply the American people with the oil that is used to produce gasoline
so that we can continue to go to work. While some people might say that this is all they can do, they
simply don’t want to be the ones to make a stink about the situation at hand. In this country if you want
to effect change you have to do it in a peaceful, yet powerful way.
This is not something that I am writing to encourage people to take up a violent stance, but it is
something to encourage each and everyone who reads this to write a letter letting your senators, and
congressmen and women know that they will not be re‐elected if something doesn’t change. Politics in
this country has turned into a big business and now people are making careers out of being politicians
instead of running for office, sharing their ideas, and then moving on when their job is done. People in
office are making too much money off of private lobbyists and other forms of pay offs that they aren’t
going to give up their positions without a fight.

As a responsible American citizen it is our job to write letters to those who are running this
country and let them know that our voices matter or they don’t have jobs. This country is going
downhill fast and if you can’t see it just look around you. There are houses being foreclosed on
everyday and the President and the Congress want the American people to believe that all they could do
was give back six hundred dollars of the money that you worked hard for in the first place to “help make
a difference.” Like most American people that money had to go to pay off a bill that I was late on
because I have been spending so much money just to get to work.
This writing is to be posted on just about every free website that I can find in order to get my
message out about the raping of the American people. While this might seem like a drastic term to use,
it seems to be the most appropriate.
I am currently a criminal justice major and I find it amusing that people such as Martha Stewart,
and the people that worked at Enron, and WorldCom got in trouble for their corporate crimes but the
people in power in this country, and the big oil companies in America aren’t even being looked at or
investigated for their over eighty billion dollar profits that they are making while Americans are losing
their homes.
While learning about corporate criminals it’s easy to see how with the profits they are turning
and money that it is supposedly costing them someone at the companies such as Chevron, Exxon‐
Mobile, and the other major oil companies aren’t cooking the books.
Why aren’t they being investigated by the government that is supposed to look out for the
people’s welfare? Why hasn’t something been done to turn that eighty billion dollars that they made
last quarter in profits into something productive? While other countries that aren’t going through this
with their prices on gas the government of the United States still seems to let this continue. When does
it end? This question should be posed to everyone who holds a public office, the fact is that it won’t end
until they are taken out of office and replaced with people who can’t be bought by big business.
