This is an essay that I wrote, as a first year college student, to assist in my observational skills.

As the bus slowed to a halt they could see where; they saw the beach-like dunes that covered the planes in this Arizona desert waste land. There were already the parallel lines of camouflage packs dotting the area to be used for sleeping, but no one was there. As the marines slowly started to look to the left, there was a knoll of human concoction, atop were the shadowy figures of men, with few women, in clothing that mimicked the tones of the sands they were going to working in.

As the travel wearied warriors approached their peers on the knoll the shadowy figures began to take shape. The slender and well toned figures were amongst the marines who had overstuffed uniforms. As there were new joins to this particular group of marines, they approached with a slight reservation as to what to talk about. Would the warriors be talking about eradicating the next generation of foreign desert warriors; perhaps, a talk about how veterans are becoming younger and Vietnam era veterans are not as much the majority anymore; or even, the talk might be about how being in the reserves is difficult because employers think that when reservists are called to do something the reservist is taking a mini-vacation.
