You have written a manuscript and you are excited. You have had family and friends read it and they said it was good. What do you do now?
If you have never had any of your work published and now you are thinking about actually self-publishing. Maybe you think about it for awhile and then you get your curiosity up on how you go about this. How complicated and expensive can this be?
When you make this decision to self-publish your book you are indirectly boosting your self-confidence. You are now believing in yourself, maybe for the first time. This is a high of emotions which in some ways you may never have experienced before.
Now is the time to stop! Think! Do not go on your emotions. The excitement inside of you will mount. I want my book in print NOW. This is the time to be careful.
The excitement you are feeling can cause you to make a huge costly mistake. There are many self-publishing companies out there that are legitimate but there are others who want only your money and don’t deliver the goods.
If you know somebody who has self-published a book ask that person who was the publisher? Did you like them? And of course, how much did it cost? How about the cost of the books to print? How much do you receive when a book is purchased on the internet or sold in person?
These are all really good questions to ask before you pay your money to a complete stranger to publish your book. But this is harder to do then you can imagine. When your excitement and emotions take over your logical mind.
Be careful when you self-publish your book. Get the facts. Before you act.
