Keeping the interior of your swimming pool fresh and clean doesn't demand extensive labor, but it takes a steady commitment. Expect to spend four and eight hours each week to do the job, only a small time needed compared to enjoying your pool for a longer period of time.

Pool cleaning supplies such as pool safety cover, pool pump, pool filter, including the pool filter parts which play a vital role in pool maintenance, are the most common tools for the job.

Using the right tools will make cleaning of your pool easier and faster. Remember, if you find it hard to do the job, most especially for the first timers, you can seek the help of a professional to do the job for you, until such time that you will be doing the job yourself. Listed below are some of the ideal tools that are essential to pool cleaning.

1. Leaf skimmer -
this long-handled net is a must for removing large pieces of debris.

2. Vacuum - Another weapon that is essential in any cleaning job. A pool vacuum is either connected to a pool's circulation system or has its own power supply. Vacuums suction out dirts that have settle in the bottom.

3. Wall and floor brush - This nylon-bristle brush cleans the walls and floors of vinyl, fiberglass, and painted pools.

4. Algae brush - Concrete pools may require one of these as its stainless steel bristles are up to the challenge of cleaning plaster walls.

5. Tile brush - If your pool has tiled wall, a handheld tile brush is great for removing calcium scale and other deposits without harming the grout.

Aside from knowing the important tools, it is also the pool owner's responsibility to know the the proper way of doing the steps intended for cleaning while using the different cleaning materials stated above.

1. Skimming debris - Skimming by hand is one of the quickest and most effective ways to keep a pool clean. A few simple swipes will remove floating objects such as leaves and twigs before they finally reach the bottom.

2. Cleaning out the baskets - Keeping the strainer baskets clear will also boost the efficiency of the circulation system, resulting in a much cleaner pool. Make it a habit that at least once a week, you will remove all the leaves and other debris that hinder the flow of water, especially when your vacuum is connected to a mechanical skimmer.

3. Vacuuming
- Vacuuming the water every week helps to keep the pool water safe, clean, and clear always. It also reduces the need to add sanitizing chemicals. Vacuum comes in many styles and designs.

4. Cleaning the walls - Cleaning the walls and removing the calcium scale and other algaecide should be done regularly before they become a serious problem in your pool. The use of brushes intended for the type of pool walls that you have is necessary to make the job faster and easier.
