Key songs available on U-Tube that have influenced "DJ Ian" over the years - Warning: this selection is strongly weighted towards Alt Rock and Folk Rock ...

September 2011: 'Mace Spray' The Jezabels. Alt Rock at it's contemporary best - check out some of the live versions You-tube as well.

'Revolution' - John Butler Trio. My favourite JBT song.

Must watch video May 2011 - 'The Glorious Land' .
Must listen to album 'Let England Shake' - P.J. Harvey 2010:
Go to: 'The Glorious Land'

PJ Harvey's 'Let England Shake' makes you wonder about the silence of rest of theUK rock/alt rock establishment regarding recent UK involvement in a range of distinctly imperialist military conflicts. The songs are wideranging meditations on war themes with strong personalised lyrics, haunting folk melodies delivered with Harvey's unmistakeable vocal style. Her love for the UK is manifest in every line but so to is her frustration, sadness, melancholy etc. at the strange unconsciousness (psychic aporias) represented by the country's involvement in so many recent conflicts. The songs are not confined to recent conflicts but explore historic conflicts besides - such as the 1st World War as well as the infamous 'charge of the light brigade'. The waste of war and the gap between political rhetoric and facts on the ground - i.e. waste-desolation-waste-legitimised murder-deformed children etc. is apparent throughout. Listen to this album, research the conflicts testified to - check out the most recent casualty lists for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars ... In short look beyond the sanitised media explications and, if you are an artist-poet-writer-musician' perhaps respond to the mechanised-computerised insanity as Harvey has done so powerfully with this album. Top Harvey in this album every fatality means: 'Cruel Nature has won again' ... and we are reminded that war is a disease of the collective psyche ...
