My Food Gremlin Should I listen to It?
We are all addicted to something. Some to alcohol, smoking, sex, drugs, and then there are the eaters. I would like to talk about the eaters. Yes, the eaters which eat when they are sad, stressed, depressed, happy and excited.
Food is something we do when we want to celebrate something important which has happened in our life. This is when food can come in all sizes, smells, and colors. When you have to choose between having a great eating binge for this happy occasion or be careful and watch what you eat and feel and look good tomorrow.
The Gremlin which lives on your left shoulder has a good deal to do with the kind of decision you will make when the food is out their looking and smelling so good you want to devour every morsel and never come up for air. You can hear your Gremlin saying to you very loudly in your head. “Eat, eat, and eat some more. Don’t forget the cake and pies. Pile your plate high, you have had some great news and you deserve this food spread. Keep eating until you can’t eat anymore. Don’t worry about tomorrow.”
Then your Spirit Guide or Guardian Angel which lives on your right shoulder starts shouting.” But remember tomorrow. You will be sick. You will gain weight and you will be so ashamed of yourself you will want to stay in bed all day and be depressed.”
Why can’t there be a happy medium. Why do we have to be torn between what we know is right and what we know is wrong. Why does our Gremlin and our Guardian Angel have to fight all day long every day? Who do you think gets the flack from this internal fight? You do.
That is why you are so stressed out. Talk to your Gremlin and talk to your Guardian Angel and ask them what will make them both happy? What will make me happy? ”I can’t take any more of this bickering and fighting in my head and body. I don’t have any peace. I want peace. I want peace.”
The Guardian Angel asks? “What do you want for yourself? Do you want to be slim, trim and look great in clothes? Do you want to be sick all the time with stomach aches and headaches from eating too much? Do you want to lower your cholesterol and blood pressure? What is it you want? Think and think again. It is your life. I only want what is best for you. You are my assignment. To make you happy, keep you happy.”
The Gremlin asks? “What do you want from your life? Tell me I want you to be happy. I want you to do what you want and eat what you want. You only live once that is my motto. Eat whatever you want today and worry about your health and weight tomorrow. It is up to you.”
Yes it is up to you. Only you can make the decision to eat healthy. Find a daily food plan which fits you, your schedule and your life. You have to find a plan which will work for you. You have to change the way you think as well as eat. Go to your refrigerator. Throw out everything that is not healthy. Throw out the cake, pie or anything that you know you should not eat because it is loaded with sugar, salt, cholesterol and fat.
Even in restaurants today most menus will give you the amount of calories in each dinner order. This is a great way to make a good choice when you eat out. Another suggestion is when you receive your food on your plate, take a knife and draw a line down the middle. Eat only one half the portion and take the rest home. You get another meal out of your original restaurant choice. That is economical, and less fattening.
It takes twenty minutes for the food you have eaten to register in your brain you are full. By then if you have continued to eat, you will be over full and feel, bloated and wishing you never ate the whole thing.
Find a way to exercise at least three times a week. Find something you like to do. Walking is fun, free and really works to tighten up your body and burn the calories. If you like swimming go to the nearest pool. Water aerobics is a great way to sculpt your body. Riding a bicycle is fun, tightens your body and really burns calories.
There are all kinds of sports find one you like and stick with it. You will make new friends and boost your self-esteem. As the pounds come off you will smile inside and out.
The Gremlin and Guardian Angel looked at each other and shrugged. We did what we could for you. You are our assignment. If you don’t want to hear all this conflict in your head and body of (should I) or (shouldn’t I) eat what you want, when you want, make up your mind right now and stick with it. Or you will continue to hear this battle in your head and body for the rest of your life and live in poor health with very little energy, depressed, anxious and unhappy.
Set boundaries for yourself. When you dine in restaurants, eat with friends, eat at work, or just eating at home. Decide what you will and won’t eat and stick with it. Only you can make this decision.
We would like some peace while living in your body and taking care of you. The Gremlin and Guardian Angel relaxed back onto your shoulder. They had said their peace and now it was up to you.
