Harvesting your home garden.

In Madison during September gardeners are enjoying the fruits of their labors with the fall harvest. This year Madison is ahead of schedule and many gardeners started harvesting in August and some crops, like tomatoes, are toward the end of their production.

Did you know that September is Organic Harvest Month? In 1992 the Organic Trade Association created the national Organic Harvest Month to draw attention to the importance of the harvest for farmers, consumers and businesses that sell organic products. The Organic Trade Association was originally founded in 1985 and is a membership based trade association.

What is the OTA mission? Their mission is to promote and protect organic trade to benefit the environment, farmers, the public and the economy. An important role they have is to establish standards for what is organic so that consumers can be assured that members provide products that meet a national standard for organic.

You can learn more about the Organic Trade Association at: www.ota.com.
