In the beginning of one's speaking business, he or she has to assemble what is commonly called his or her signature speech or trademark speech. Resting on the shoulders of success, there's no room for error on this first talk!
In the beginning of ones speaking business, he or she has to assemble what is commonly called his or her signature speech or trademark speech. One of the most important aspects of the talk is that it should lead into paid bookings later on down the line. This speech is not one you want to gum up otherwise you my not be asked to other engagements.
You also want to make sure itís a timeless speech. Meaning you want to be able to use it over and over again. You want to be able to use it today as well as two years from now. Itíll beÖjust one more speech you can always draw from of your talks of many. Itís a good idea to have a short version and a long version as well. Crafting your signature speech or talk should revolve around something your very passionate about. Something that makes you special.
Something that you felt so strong about, that you were going to do it, no matter what. Maybe it was your first date or when you asked your wife to marry you. Maybe it was getting your high school or college diploma. Maybe it was landing a specific job or running a marathon. Itís the X factor or the reason why you are you!
Other than itís what makes you unique, that there is no one else in the whole world like you. This will be your signature speech, and you can tell it over and over again. It will be your most dynamic speech, the one your most passionate about, the one that most clients or meeting planners will ask you to give. You can always change it a little, but in the end itís still you, its your signature speech.
It could have been something you wanted to accomplish or it was something you wanted to do. It didnít matter what obstacles came up, you were going to make it happen. This is exactly what Iím talking about, this is your signature speech. This is what makes you, you.
Once the meeting planner sees or hears about how your talk went over, youíll get plenty of word-of-mouth about you. Providing you know your stuff, the cast is set! Itís like a snow ball. Word travels fast! From that point on you should get more bookings. Take the time to layout your platform and youíll have more requests than you know what to do
with. Now you want to know, how do get the chance to give your signature speech?
Thatís really the easy part. First thing is get your local city newspaper or yellow pages or use the internet. You want to find the local clubs, YMCA, library, Rotary Club, Veteran of Foreign Wars or church. What you do is called and ask to speak to the meeting planner.
The best one I would start with is your local Chamber of Commerce. Plus, you can always located a local Toastmaster Chapter for you area. Theyíre worldwide and have been around since 1924 with thousands of members. All this can be done in a relativity short amount of time. Itís up to you how much time you want to invest into your speaking business. If youíve decided this is something you want to pursue, go for it and give your signature speech!†
