Straightening out the confusion for soldiers who want to separate from the US Army to further education.
Army Regulation 635-200, chapter 5, paragraph 16 says, "Soldiers may be discharged or released from active duty for the convenience of the Government, up to 90 days before ETS, in order to attend a specific term at college, university, vocational school, or technical school." This is commonly called a "school drop." There is often a lot of confusion between soldiers, their superiors, and the administrative personnel as to what exactly this means and what the process is to achieve this.
