We have a little voice inside our head that Chatters all the time. What little voice you ask? That voice - the one that just ask, “What little voice?“
This Intrapersonal Communication is named Self-talk. It is You talking to You. Self-talk is important to be aware of because it determines how we Feel. If self-talk is positive, you will be positive. If it is negative, you will feel negative, lousy, depressed, etc.
What is the difference between self-talk and thinking? They are similar but slightly different. If you can learn to identify the difference and separate the two, you will gain a big advantage. For example, if the little voice is chattering negatives, our mind can tell it to “Shut Up” and it will. If the chatter is about depressing thoughts or sad events from the past, our brain can kick in and say, “Don’t Go There”. In this manner, we can gain some Objectivity and Control over our self-talk when appropriate.
Self-talk also has a powerful influence over our Self-Image and Self-Esteem. The Value we place upon ourselves is all about what we say with self-talk.
Tip - Here’s what I want you to do. When you awake in the morning and look in the mirror, your self-talk may say, “God I look awful! Look at that grey hair and those wrinkles“. Instead, I want you to say, “Hello you Beautiful Thing!”
Remember this and it will help get your day started in the right direction. It works, so do it!
