Thank God, nothing is all bad all of the time ...

I was really enjoying my coffee this morning. The bold, intoxicating aroma wafted up and, combined with the even more delicious taste, I had to smile. Someone, please tell me, why is it that on most mornings, it tastes really good and wakes up both body and mind, but on rare occasions -- like this morning, where it tastes so-o-o much better? It's the same coffee I always drink, only ... better.

It seems to me that's the way it is with most things ... nothing is ever always really, really good or always really, really bad.

All through life, we're bombarded with happy beginnings, joyful middles, and then the inevitable endings -- some are happy, some sad, some not so sad. It isn't really fair, but as we all know, nothing lasts forever, and no one ever said life has to be fair. I remember a quote I read once by Cherralea Morgen, and I've never forgotten it.

"Life is not always fair. You can even get a splinter sliding down a rainbow."

Interesting quote, and it puts things in perspective. I could just as easily apply that reasoning to my coffee this morning. As great as it tastes, if I were to suddenly spill it, it would definitely burn ...

It all neatly translates into having to take a wee bit of bad with the good in most things. Although, I walked away from two marriages where that little factoid was seriously flawed. Oil and water DO NOT mix and, as everyone knows, neither does pouring abuse into the oil and water mixture and stirring it up. When you do that, the wee bit of good with the whole lot of bad doesn't work AT ALL. Thank God my Mama understood: "Honey, you have to do what's right for you, no matter what anyone else says. It’s your life -- but get the hell out!" (Thank you, Mama).

... back to my coffee ... mmmmm good.

"Frame of mind." you, my friend, and I know that on somedays one may awake and everything seems to be good and to look better, then, the next day, though all things are considered to be equal, and nothing visual is different, yet, there is that little doubt and that little worry and, though, there is no reason for that worry or doubt, on that morning the coffeejust doesn't taste as good as it had the day before..."Frame of mind!"

A profound truth stated in simple words for all to understand. I recall that in my article posting Lebensweisheiten (Wisdoms of Life),
the statement is made, "Life isn't fair, but it's good."

I think our personal attitude has a lot to do with how we see and feel about events in our lives. I know that as a child, I loved chocolate cake with chocolate icing. And the parts of the cake that had no icing were a necessary evil to getting to the parts with lots of icing. Perhaps life can be equated to my childhood chocolate cake experience. (Of course, now as an adult when I get to make my own choices, the mood may strike me to just eat only the icing and ignore the rest. Oh, I'm so glad I'm not a kid anymore!)

But thanks for the wonderful reminder that all is not always good.
