A child is never too young to benefit from the steps a parent will take in building their self confidence. Every word spoken to a child is absorbed in their mind like a sponge. One negative remark spoken to a child will be remembered forever. He or she will never forget their inner emotion clearly felt with any judgmental comment by a parent or other role model figure. This is why it is so very important to always accentuate the positive in a child. Any encouraging words, especially from a parent, will add to positive opportunities and future successes which we all want for our children.
There are many ways to promote a child’s self esteem and confidence. If a child shows an interest in something, take the extra step in encouraging that interest. Whether it is art, music, reading, or gardening, provide the child with the necessary tools for their newfound pursuit. Let a child often know how valuable they are to you. In turn, they will realize their purpose is significant. Don’t step in and do things for your child because you know you can do it better and faster. Such a scenario promotes a sure feeling of failure. Encourage decision making and respect his or her ideas, even if they are different of farfetched. If he or she wants to be an astronaut, go to the library or research the internet so the child will learn more about their interest. Words and actions from parents are imperative to children. A child is a child for such a short while. It seems it is just a blink of an eye when they are old enough to make the dreams of their childhood become a reality. Let them have you to thank for positive support and guidance along their road to success.
