On December 7th, I bought one of these bogus cards at Wal-Mart, who is in no way responsible for this mess. Read on. I paid for the card; it was activated and I sent it to my out-of-state daughter. Days later, when she received the card, and tried using it for her Christmas present, it was rejected 3 times at the point of sale. Then the games began.
I called the AmexGift Card center and was connected with a gentleman who spoke better broken English than the rest. I was told to fax them a letter at 1-866-840-4438 with a photocopy of the paid receipt and a photocopy of my driver’s license. I also enclosed my name, address and phone number. I did the same with my daughter’s information. This was on December 14th according to my Transmission Verification Report.
On the 17th I called the center and was told they hadn’t received my fax and I should send it again. I went to Wal-Mart and spoke to a lovely, hard-working, asst. Mgr in Customer Service. She called the center and reached someone she couldn’t understand. He wanted to speak to me as though I’d understand his gibberish. I didn’t. She spent 45 minutes on the phone arguing with Mr. Speak No English before demanding he search for the fax I sent. He found it and transferred her to a supervisor as she requested.
The supervisor, Mr. I Can Speak Better Broken English, informed ‘her that the matter will be looked into. If Amex feels I have a claim, they will honor it in 10 days’. She reminded him that 10 days would bring us to December 27th, 2 days after Christmas. He didn’t care. She also reminded him that the company had received payment for the card. He still didn’t care. The company had to look into this matter and we would receive an answer in 10 days.
Incidentally, my daughter also made calls to the AmexGift Card Center and became extremely frustrated. She also happens to be physically handicapped. Doesn’t this give those ‘Speak No English’ people great joy?
I added their fax number above for those who also have problems with this bogus gift card. This might not help those who have Christmas problems like me, but it will help in the future. Their main phone number is 1-877-297-4438. Good luck with your calls and faxes.
Merry Christmas to All, and have a Safe, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
