Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without. – Buddha

Often we allow ourselves to be emotionally injured by the actions and words of others.  It is especially painful when the person is close in relationship with us, family, friends, or our children.   We’ve offered our care, only for our actions to be met with animosity.

Sometimes these jabs come from strangers as well.  The person in the other car cuts you off and then flips you off.  Or some road raged driver is laying on the horn blowing at us like their life depended on it.

These things can be disturbing but we should work to keep inner peace so that such outside actions do not dictate how we feel or what we do.  A quote from Christian D. Larsen says, “Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.”  It is a promise we should work hard to keep.

Do the best you can do and do it because you want to. If others do not appreciate what you do or reward your acts of kindness with contempt do not take it personally.  That’s their issue. Keep your mind focused on peace and be determined not to let another dictate how you feel. We are the masters of our emotions and feelings and once we come to full grips with this fact there are powerful ramifications.
