I think this book would appeal to both boys and girls. There is a lot of action, with strong teenage characters. Mo, is basically a good boy who had made some bad decisions. He has been sent to the outback for rehabilitation because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He has a strong sense of right and wrong, and tries to do what is right. His growing feelings for Beth are dealt with in an age appropriate manner.
I liked that the story was set in Australia. It is a fascinating country and I enjoyed reading about life on a "station". The main characters were likable, and relatable to both teen and adult readers.
