The Tooth Straightening Procedures
Fixed Orthodontic Braces - Fixed orthodontic braces are sets of wires and brackets cemented to your teeth. A patient who gets fixed orthodontic braces will have to wear the fixed orthodontic braces for about two to three years. The orthodontist will tighten the wires and adjust on the braces frequently. The braces work well because they gradually apply force to straighten the teeth. The orthodontist will be able to determine how long you need to wear them based on how much movement is required in order to obtain straight teeth. Over the years, the dental surgery community has created numerous styles and with various colored ceramic brackets to choose from – not like when I grew up.
Lingual Braces - Lingual braces are similar to your conventional wire braces. The only difference is that they are built-in to the back surfaces making them unnoticeable. Lingual braces are reported to be very painful and you may have a hard time getting use to them. However, if you conscious of the way you look and you do not want anyone to notice that you are wearing braces than lingual may be the braces for you. These braces can be worn for severe orthodontic cases:
- Crowding – your teeth are too close together
- Overbite – your teeth lie on top of each other too much
- Your lower teeth stick out
- Crossbite – your teeth bite on the wrong side of each other
Invisalign – These clear orthodontic aligners are removable. My mother loves them! Yes, my mother! The orthodontist will adjust them so your teeth will shift into position without having to use any metal or wires. The patient will have to wear each Invisalign for a period of two weeks. Each aligner moves the teeth more and more into position. It can take a couple months to a year and a half. However, they are some pro’s and /con’s to invisaligns.
The disadvantages - Invisalign does not work well with:
- Teeth that are at different heights
- Teeth that are lower than others
- Teeth that are higher than others
- Teeth that are severely rotated
- Correcting bite problems
- Teeth that are overcrowded
- You can remove them to clean your teeth
- You can remove them to eat.
In the last couple of years, Invisalign has become a very popular with adults.
Inman Aligner - can straighten or move your teeth to the position they need to subside in. Many dentists use the Inman Aligner as an alternate to the invisalign invisible braces. It can do a wonderful job on straightening the front of your teeth. The Inman Aligner has a lingual coil spring that puts pressure on the teeth shifts them into place. Typically, patients need to wear them for 1 to four months to push the teeth back into place.
Damon Braces - Damon braces have metal brackets bonded to your teeth; a wire is used to straighten your teeth. Damon braces are used on:
- Severe cases
- Teeth are too close together
- Gaps between teeth
- Teeth bite on the wrong side of each other
6-month smile - The Six Month Smile braces has wires are small and are not as noticeable as conventional braces. These braces do not have to be worn as long. The Six Month Smile is comfortable to wear and not uncomfortable as other braces.
The Six Month Smiles can be used to treat a wide variety of orthodontic problems:
- When teeth are too close together
- Gaps between teeth
- Teeth partly cover each other
- When front teeth stick out
- Lower teeth stick out
- When teeth bite on the wrong side of each other

Treatments usually take a year and a half to 2 years.
