Rossmoor is an adult retirement community in Walnut Creek, California. A very beautiful place – 2,200 acres in a sweet little valley. 10,000 seniors live there and enjoy tremendous amenities: 27 holes of golf, tennis courts, five club houses, swimming pools, libraries, a movie theater, workshops for wood, ceramics, jewelry, etc...
Concerts and recitals, speakers and performers... – the place has 200 clubs and organizations including a Shakespeare Society and an Opera/Ballet Club both of which I am deeply involved in. Rossmoor has everything in the world, in fact, but the most precious thing of all – democracy.
Rossmoor is not a democracy, not a municipality, but a corporation. A nine-person corporate board runs and controls everything. This board is profoundly undemocratic; it deliberately denies the will of the people. It defies the express wishes of the residents even when 75 or as many as 90 percent of the residents state their preference.
I have created a series of YouTube videos which I call “The Rossmoor Trilogy.” They are as follows:
1) The Tragedy of Rossmoor
2) Rossmoor the Corporation
3) Rossmoor the Democracy
These videos are comical and colorful, musical and magical. Yes, magical in the spectacular special effects. They are best seen, of course, in a dark room with YouTube on “full screen.”
