An alternative to war

The categorising of articles - and often poetry, I find to be quite difficult. My article 'An alternative to war' could be in several categories and I may not have chosen the right one to encourage people to read it.
I have written 'An alternative to war' and put it in the political science section. It could be in several, so please do not let that stop you from reading the article.
In my work as a psychiatrist and working in the speciality of psychotherapy for 35 years, flexibility and openness to change was necessary in both the patient and in me to enable the patient to move from illness to health.
Many therapists put the onus on the patient to change, and if that doesn't happen then 'the patient is resistant'. I didn't think like that - if my patients didn't respond then it was my duty and responsibility to change the strategy to enable them to do so.
Using those principles, I suggest an alternative strategy to the war in Afghanistan, a strategy which needs a change in beliefs on both sides. What is being used at present - weapons against weapons, fight against fight only strengthens the beliefs of the terrorists and does not obtain the desired result - which surely is peace and health for all concerned, and a stop to terrorist actions around the world.
A change has to start somewhere, sometime.The terrorists are stuck in their belief systems, so the change has to come from the 'other side' first.
