The purpose of this blog is to provide updates on some of the cases I reported in my book (Fighting CPS: Guilty Until Proven Innocent of Child Protective Services Charges ISBN 9-780-9800061-6-2) that had not been resolved when the book went to press, and to report other cases where CPS is not working up to par. I’d also like to hear about cases in which Child Protective Services did the right thing so those cases can serve as examples of what should be done.
Ex-Mrs. Q, of Case VI, pages 199-202 sent the following update:
Here's what eventually happened:
After months of attempting to set up a meeting with our case-worker and his supervisor, after writing the head of the region and eventually the governor, we were granted a meeting with the case-worker, his immediate boss, and the regional boss.
It was utterly ridiculous. Anytime the case-worker opened his mouth to answer one of my questions, he was immediately cut-off by his boss. We got NO answers. We got one great big apology, with the boss of the case-worker summing it all up:
“We're so sorry this happened to you. He shouldn't have told you those things about Mr. Q. We know this caused you great stress and worry. We're so sorry this happened.”
Unfortunately, the case-worker had been right on, as he described Mr. Q to a T, but because of a recent lawsuit of CPS (brought about by the same attorney my ex had, and which CPS LOST), they refused to do what they should have done.
Since that time I have continued to take the girls [C and D] to a wonderful counselor where they learn about boundaries and how to cope with the mind-games their father plays. The counselor is concerned about the situation, has reported at least one (I think two or three) things to CPS that the girls revealed in counseling, and the girls make very interesting "sand trays" which are at times quite concerning.
I took my ex to court this past April (another $15k down the tubes) to ask the judge to make him follow our parenting plan. Mr. Q did his best to make me STOP taking the girls to counseling but that didn't happen. We settled out of court just an hour before the court time, and basically he has to comply or be in deep doo-doo because I will take him back to legal dealings if I have to, and he knows it.
Lately his emails are no longer bullying and evil, lecturing and mean, manipulative and aggressive—short and to the point—in fact there have been very few of them (I think his attorney forced him to quit writing all the best evidence I had to present to the court—truly he gave me all my best support in his emails).
He's the same selfish guy—came to a soccer game this week and spent any moment the girls were with him hugging them. C was supposed to be goalie but missed the call because she was sitting on his lap snuggling. My new husband [her step-father] had to tell her that her team was waiting for her on the field. Mr. Q is allowed to come to events as long as he isn't disruptive.
All I can do, at this point, is continue to take the girls to their counselor and keep teaching them what is appropriate for young ladies.
