Nature Unfolding

Spring continues on apace. Our phoebes are back for another season of house building and egg laying and baby raising. It is a yearly adventure that we very much look forward to each April.
This year we had a little added excitement when one of the phoebes thought the garage rafters would make for a good nesting site. E. was leaving for work and the phoebe didn't want to leave its potential home.
I went outside and stood in the garage until he/she finally left. Now we make sure to close the garage door each time we go in and out of there.
The pair of phoebes are now setting up house on the light fixture outside our workshop and they are very busy flying back and for with mud and grass and whatever else they need for their nest, from morning to night. The structure will soon be finished.
Our forsythia is out. The day-lilies we divided last year have all but disappeared except for two groups of them out of four that we planted. Each day we see some new thing. The peonies poked up through the ground yesterday, the daffodils are in bloom today, and the Jacob's Ladder plant that we moved last fall has survived and looks healthy. Wild flowers are also appearing. The spring beauties were in flower yesterday, the wild violets are in leaf along with the trout lilies and other plants.
This is not a time to be missed. So much excitement all around. We seem to have more song birds this year. We have heard hermit thrushes, winter wrens, fly catchers, as well as the yellow bellied sapsucker.
We have had good early warmth but now it has cooled off again. We hope the nice warm days return soon.
