The difference between a captured soldier and a dead one

Captured American soldier vs dead Canadian soldiers.
I was at my Aunt's today... she's one of those people who put CNN on all day just to hear the bad news, I guess, from her comments.
They were talking about the young American soldier who was being held captive right now. I think it is tragic that this young man is being put through this. But I notice a slight inbalance in the news coverage... at least, this young man is still alive.
Our Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan, to my knowledge, don't get captured... they are randomly killed, usually, by the cowardly method of landmines/roadside bombs. In Canada, our media usually tells us about the death and, apparently, the returning dead are honoured on the roadways to their places of rest. I have never seen these trips shown on TV here in Canada, only on the Internet. It's my country's fault, not the United States'. I am of the belief that for every week we lose troops in a country where we are not appreciated or wanted, we should have one day of mourning. Your American government seems to take the sacrifices of your young men and women far more seriously than ours does... and I think that is criminal of my government. I'd appreciate responses from both sides of the border.
