Just my insight on the question Is Homosexuality A Sin?
Homosexuality: Right or Wrong
I was talking with one of my DL (down low) friends the other day when he made the statement that if he had a son he would teach him to go the right way. When I asked what was the right way he replied, “Being straight – heterosexual.”
Now this shocked me seeing as He IS on the down low himself.
Here is my theory on homosexuality and religion and it is not going to be a light read so be prepared to learn.
Most religions proclaim that homosexuality is a sin. I, however, don’t know most religions, I know Christianity. Nowadays these religious skeptics use the story in Genesis 19:1-28 of Sodom and Gomorrah to substantiate their claim of homosexuality as a sin.
Leviticus 18:22 states that, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.”
In Leviticus 20:13 it avows “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.”
All three of these are in the Old Testament, but mind you Leviticus was written 3,000 years ago.
Now later, in Romans 1:27 it says, “Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.”
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionists will inherit the kingdom of God.”
Now since these are the principles being preached, let me first inform you of two things, one: I don’t care what anyone says, Man wrote the bible and two: the same way a player must compete to make the team; so was it for the books of the bible. Originally there were approximately 600 books that comprised the bible. The priests and their Council handpicked and nominated the doctrines that best expressed their beliefs. Anything that was adverse or defiled their morals or principals was cast into a conflagration of flames and kindled resulting in 80 books being 66. Now these books are called “lost” when in reality, the Church calls them forbidden.
Now my big question for those who identify as Christians is this: Who is the foundation of your religion?
There is only one answer: Jesus Christ of Nazareth. That being said, in my opinion, there is only one person that matters in the bible to me. Again, that is Jesus. Now if you look at the passages above you will realize none of these words are or would be in red. Meaning Jesus did not speak them.
Now of all the things that Jesus preached about isn’t it peculiar how the Son of God never once mentioned homosexuality as a sin.
What I do remember is Jesus in Matthew 5:17-48 revising the commandments which were given in the Old Testament. Why? They were outdated and preached principles like supporting polygamy, prohibition of interracial marriage, if a married couple were to have sex during a woman’s period they both would be executed and if a man died childless, his widow was ordered by biblical law to have intercourse with each of his brothers until she gives her deceased husband a male heir. These are perfect examples of why illogical customs in the Old Testament should be obsolete. Certain bible verses should not be interpreted as God’s law forever, they were written by man for their time and culture.
Here are some questions you should ask yourself,
What commandment does homosexuality break?
Why are there homosexual animals, are they sinning too, or are they free from sin?
Why does the bible include six verses that refer to “same-sex behavior” out of a million?
So, I have come to the conclusion that homosexuality is not a choice or a sin. I believe sexual orientation is deeper than a conscientious decision or preference. Those who condemn it are just afraid because they cannot begin to comprehend it. Also, let’s be realistic, the only reason homosexuality is condemned so harshly is because of gay men. It is well-known that lesbianism is openly viewed as erotic and stimulating to most men. I respect those who denounce homosexuality as a whole more than the biased ones who just can’t stand the idea of male-on-male sex.
As far as our rights as gays, all I have to say is that they can only be denied for so long. Who are we to wait for them to approve their amendments and propositions? In most states they fear gay marriage. They say they will not honor any marriage other than marriage between a man and a woman. They also don’t want us to adopt children because they may be “indoctrinated into the gay lifestyle.” I am pretty sure if they had their way they would snatch the baby right out of the womb of a woman who has undergone artificial insemination for a gay couple. Who are these homophobic politicians who say they will deny us our constitutional rights in the name of religion? Well, look to your local and state politicians. There are those who say they have no problem with homosexuality, but they do oppose gay marriage due to religious beliefs – President Barack Obama. Well I suggest they re-read their bibles and see what they do favor.
I am extremely upset with the African American community, who should not forget the oppression that we faced just because of the color of our skin. Was that something that could be changed? Was it a “choice” to be brown-skinned? You may see it as a different circumstance, but I see it as a song and dance. I will not be like my ancestors and wait for centuries to win the right of my constitutional rights. Which included promoting general Welfare and securing the Blessings of Liberty (quality of people’s rights; which are as diverse as the people themselves) to me and my posterity.
And whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolis***t, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
I want to know your thoughts on this.
