Guthrie Update: A Cry for Sympathy
Leigh again: Ruthie Jo spoke with Jo Ruth, her psychiatrist daughter, who opined that Guthrie's bungee cord hanging was a cry for sympathy and not a serious attempt. The fact he called Timothy, me, and even Penny Sue before he did the deed was the telltale sign. He also chose a long bungee cord. I just don't think he counted on the chandelier caving in. Guthrie's always been a drama queen, but this takes the cake.
I found out Guthrie'd phoned Timothy when the big, brilliant hunk called from the Houston airport to say he was en route. That tidbit sent Penny Sue into a rage, since she and Rich were in the middle of an "intimate moment" when Mr. Drama called her. If not for Ruthie's intervention, Penny Sue would have slugged Guthrie. I can sympathize with him having been dumped by Zack. It's a real kick in the gut.
Guthrie will stay with me until Timothy arrives, and depending on how that goes, he may become a semi-permanent house guest. Jo Ruth recommended that we keep him under observation for a while. You'd think Penny Sue would offer given her extra bedroom and old-time penchant for bringing injured cats and sad men back to the sorority house. But, I guess the fact that she's hot and heavy into Rich right now has changed her ways. Plus Guthrie gets on her nerves because he tends to steal the spotlight away from her.
For now things are on an even keel. Ruthie's feeding Guthrie coffee, Rescue Remedy and toast, but the news that Timothy's en route did more for Guthrie's condition than any medicine could possibly do. Will keep you posted, this looks like a long week. —Leigh
