Back to Low Arvie 7/9/2010 11:53:47 PM Saturday again and my week in Warwick is almost over! Its been a very busy one and I'm afraid Tabitha and Michael haven't moved at all. I was hoping for a quiet day to myself yesterday to get them moving, but 'the best laid schemes ....' as our National poet once wrote! Four days of daughter and dogs, two days of visiting my cousins and then yesterday I had a lovely surprise which filled up my time.
Of course, my daughter is my first priority when I come down here - our umbilical cord is still very much alive and well after nearly thirty-seven years of existence and I love to spend time with her and Morgan. Next comes my cousins. We didn't see each other for almost forty years and now must make up for all that lost time, so they are high on my list too. My younger cousin's husband, Fred, was diagnosed with the dreadful 'C' last October and I'm very sorry to say that the prognosis is not good. Each time I come to England, I do my bit in supporting them all as much as I can. So all that took care of the first six days of my visit, leaving only yesterday for Tabitha.
Then on Thursday I received a phone call out of the blue from a friend I had not seen for more than thirty years, saying that she was staying just eight miles from here - the first time we had coincided - and so I just had to go and visit her. It was wonderful to catch up in person. How is it that we are now in our sixties and yet it was just as if we were back in our teenage years, as comfortable together as two old shoes. I love the warmth that comes from catching up with old, old friends - no awkwardness, no having to be on best behaviour, just a simple understanding of a past life and the disappearance of all the intervening years. We laughed at shared memories of those years so long ago, we cried for other friends no longer here to share our time and we talked and talked of the ups and downs of our separate lives in the intervening years. Wonderful!
However, it all meant that my file on Tabitha and Michael remained firmly closed and now must do so for three more weeks until I return, for Low Arvie calls once again and this afternoon I return to my duties as Jill of all trades on the farm and my teaching life - Spanish with the Dorothys and three pupils who are keeping up their Maths lessons during the summer holiday in preparation for their new start in Secondary School in August.
I am so lucky to have this dual purpose life and would not change a thing!
Take care,
Lxx
